Father's Day 2016

We sure love dads around here!  Grandpas too!  Fathers are the best, most powerful, most influential, and most lovable people!  At least ours are.  We love to spend a day celebrating them.
David is embarrassed by his crazy morning hair, but I love it!

Our day started with steel cut oats (his choice - seriously) and fruit smoothies.  Then, we gave him a few small gifts.

Here's a manly present in a Hello Kitty bag.  I love his little helpers hovering nearby.
And here's a little ice chest and water bottle for him to keep his lunch nice and cool while it sits in the car all day long.

At church, he was given a cute candy bar and a root beer float.  Alison was the youth speaker in Sacrament meeting.  She had been so stressed out about it all week, repeatedly insisting that she couldn't do it.  David even offered to write it for her (wink, wink), but she actually did a fantastic job on her own.  Her talk was sweet, thoughtful, and humorous.  She said some nice things about her dad.

After church, my parents and my brother came over for dinner.  We planned on Kristin's family as well, but at the last minute, they decided to stay home.  Their lives have been Crazy with a capital C lately.  We missed them, but understood the need to just relax and decompress for a day.
Earlier in the week, our kids worked on a banner with which to decorate our backyard and wish the men a happy Father's Day.
It was very....unique.  There were lots of little boy drawings to entertain and educate us.
Sweet David manned the grill, even on Fathers' Day.

The kids decorated the back yard.  Notice Alison hard at work on the hammock.

We had balloons and streamers, and even little puff balls dangling from the trees.

The food was pretty simple and very summery: hot dogs, chips, fruit, potato salad, etc.

As usual, Grandpa was surrounded by the little ones.

Here's Ali, Scott, Nicki, and Grandma.

We had a great night.  Our huge tree keeps the back yard nicely shaded, so it was very pleasant out there.  After dinner, we played a couple of games. and visited for a while. Scott always has funny stories to tell.  We ate ice cream cake for dessert.  Grandma also brought a huge apple pie, but we were all so stuffed, we just divided it up and took it home for the next day.  Scott was being very patient with us, even playing a few rounds of "I'm thinking of an animal" with us - a favorite of the boys (and a favorite of his when he was little too).  But after a while, he reminded us that game seven of the NBA finals was on, so we went inside and caught the last quarter.  It really was a fantastic, historic, even epic game.   Overall, I think it was a really nice day.
