It's Not What You Know, It's Who You Know

We had the most amazing experience on October 4th.  We got to eat dinner with an apostle!

See, Jim and Marilyn came to Salt Lake City to have a mission reunion with their missionaries from when he was a mission president.  Those are usually held the week before general conference because lots of people come to SLC on that weekend.  So Jim reached out to his long time friend, Elder David A. Bednar and asked if he'd be willing to come talk to his missionaries.  (Jim was one of the VP's under Elder Bednar when he was President of BYU-I and they had a very fun, teasing relationship.) Elder Bednar said he'd be happy to come.

The reunion was held in one of the banquet rooms on the top floor of the Joseph Smith Memorial Building.
Jim was so hilarious that night.  It was really fun to see him interact with his missionaries and to witness the tremendous love those missionaries have for him.
David and I were lucky enough to sit at the table with his parents and the Bednars.
What a super cool experience.  We talked a little, but listened a lot more.  And laughed a lot too.
It was such a great night.
These two great men have a tremendous love for each other.

Elder Bednar said something to the effect that he doesn't do a lot of speaking for people in these kinds of situations, but Jim Gee could ask him to speak in Timbuktu and Elder Bednar would say yes.
