Vacation - Day Two: Family Time

Day two of our family vacation was Sunday.  We went to church with Grandma and Grandpa in the morning.  Afterwards, we ate a magnificent feast of pork chops and gravy.  Ooh!  It was delicious!  We spent a quiet hour while the little boys napped.

In the afternoon, David and I took our kids on a family history tour.  We started at the Teton Dam site.  When David was six years old, his house washed away in the Teton Flood.  So the Dam is a major part of his family's history.  He told our kids several stories and they all listened intently.  It really was amazing!

Then, we drove about 45 minutes to the little town of Tetonia, where David's uncle still owns a family farm. David's family, along with his uncles' families, who were also displaced, lived in the farm for a few days following the flood.  When David was a teenager, he and some cousins would work on the farm for the summer.  They spent the week up there, and came home each weekend for church.  He has many memories of the farm.  It sure was beautiful there!

We got back from our family history tour just in time for people to start arriving for Sunday visits.  The weekly family gathering is one of the things we miss most about Idaho.  The adults sit and visit while the kids run around and play, both inside and outside of the house.  We also eat treats.  Here are a few pictures we took that night.  Shawn's family and Suzette and Kory came.

Somehow, I missed getting a picture of the A-salt rifle.  It's hard to believe since it was the center of attention the entire night.  It's Grandpa's gun.  It looks like a nerf gun kind of.  But it's filled with table salt, which it shoots out like a shotgun and kills flies rather easily.  Every male in the family, regardless of age, and several females as well, took a turn with the gun.  It was gross and cool at the same time.

After the family left, we put our boys to bed and relaxed with David's parents for a few minutes.  What a wonderful second day of vacation!
